The population includes Indian Health Service (IHS) active users (used services between 2008 and 2010, and did not die prior to 2010) whose community of residence in fiscal year 2010 was one of the 14 Project Sites. The number of persons differs somewhat from the IHS fiscal year 2010 active user population count for the 14 IHS Service Units (n=446,453) for four reasons: 1) we assigned each person to one IHS Service Unit in our analysis, whereas IHS allows for persons to be counted in more than one IHS Area; 2) the data used in this project were extracted at a later date from the IHS National Data Warehouse and some records may have been updated between the IHS data analysis and this analysis; 3) there were 119 active users excluded whose date of birth date was missing or inaccurate; and 4) records were removed for persons where information indicates they were deceased prior to fiscal Year 2010.
