AHRQ’s Healthcare Extension Service Initiative
A Notice of Intent issued by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) signals the agency’s intent to publish a funding opportunity announcement to create State-based Healthcare Extension Cooperatives that can accelerate the implementation of actionable evidence into practice.
The initiative—AHRQ’s Healthcare Extension Service, State-Based Solutions to Healthcare Improvement—aims to strengthen the capacity of healthcare systems, other healthcare organizations, and clinicians to deliver evidence-based care that addresses the whole person.
Each Cooperative will convene a variety of public and private partners that are drivers of healthcare improvement in their State, including the State Medicaid agency, healthcare systems, other healthcare organizations, patients, and community representatives, among others, that will address barriers to delivering equitable, whole-person care.
This project will be funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Trust Fund, builds on AHRQ’s prior Trust Fund investments to develop healthcare extension services, and leverages AHRQ’s expertise in supporting healthcare transformation and learning health systems. More information is available about PCOR at AHRQ and in AHRQ’s strategic framework for the Agency’s PCOR Trust Fund investments.
The Notice of Funding Opportunity is expected to be published in early 2024 with an expected application due date in mid-2024. The earliest estimated award date is in early 2025.
